In addition I'd like to have a separate numbering scheme for groups on their own.

Currently there's only one global numbering scheme for everything, so I can have:

  1. communication (group)

1 mutt (window in communication group)
2 shells (group)
3 bash (window in shells group)
4 bash (ungrouped window)

This means I can jump from window 0 (a group) directly to 3 (a shell window in a different group).

I think it should be separately configurable if

a) the numbering scheme for groups is separate from the numbering scheme for other windows
b) windows inside groups should have a separate numbering scheme

Now that we have window groupings, it might be nice to have windows number separately within groups. That is, window 0 in group "foo" may coexist with a window 0 in group "bar".

We'd probably need a "global" and "local" numbering system.

This idea may or may not be practical. We'd need new flags for %w.
