A new snapshot that is not dependent on mxDateTime any more is available from http://www.wiktory.org/snapshots/wiktory_latest.tar.gz. psycopg has been replaced by psycopg2 (http://initd.org/projects/psycopg2). psycopg2 is still beta, but hopefully functional.

I'm already working on a solution. psycopg may be replaced with a patched version of pygresql (http://www.pygresql.org/). I have no idea how long it will take, but i promise not to do any new features until the problem is solved.

Hello,

-email is unavailable- stated that mxDateTime truly is incompatible with the GNU GPL. So technically psycopg is not legally consistant, nor your program that uses it.

Usually in such cases, we try to find a workaround but here, the problem doesn't come from you but from one of your dependencies, that you do not hold the copyright of.

So currently I cannot approve your project. I suggest you ask -email is unavailable- for a possible solution. My guess is that psycopg has to be fixed, either by discussing with mxDateTime's authors and licensing, or by writing a replacement for that library.

We may provide the Savannah facilities in order to achieve the immediate goal of cleaning up the licensing issues with your project (e.g. managing the development of a replacement). If you agree with this commitment, please state so and we may approve your project.

The files from wordpress do not carry any copyright or license informations. The GPL V2 is included. The README states http://wordpress.de/readme.html WordPress is released under the GPL (see license.txt). Matthew Mullenweg gave me permission to use the files under that license. This is just fine for me.

Further more i give permission for my work, to use it under GPL V2 or latter. This is for the sake of reusability of code. But i do by no means promise that i will switch to GPL V3. I have to read and fully understand the finall version of GPL V3 before making a decision.

Licensing under the "GNU GPL v2 only" is problematic.

The reason for this is that when we publish GPL v3, it will be important for all GPL-covered programs to advance to GPL v3. If you don't put this in the files now, the only way to port your program to GPL v3 would be to ask each and every copyright holder, and that may be very difficult.

Do you know if Wordpress is released under GPLv2 only or GPLv2 or later? Wordpress's documentation is not clear on that point :/

http://www.wiktory.org/snapshots/wiktory_latest.tar.gz provides an updated snapshot.

Changes:

  • removed 'gnu-fdl.png'
  • added file 'htdocs/README' which gives copyright and license informations for 'wiktory.css', 'fade-butt.png' and 'header-shadow.png

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

I asked -email is unavailable- for information about the mxDateTime license. We'll see when we get the reply.

Please state the origin (copyright) and license of the images as an inline comment, or in a README file in the same directory. (check http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html)

I guess gnu-fdl.png comes from an old version of creativecommons.org, but in doubt it would be better not to use it.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

To help us better keep track of your registration, please use the tracker's web interface following the link below. Do not reply directly, the registration process is not driven by e-mail, and we will not receive such replies.

Regards.

Description:

Wiktory is hybride software. It combines the 'let it edit everybody' philosophy of wikis with features common in web-directory-software.

homepage: http://www.wiktory.org
source:   http://www.wiktory.org/snapshots/wiktory_latest.tar.gz
test installation: http://www.wiktory.org/cgi-bin/index.py

Wiktory is Free Software and released under the GNU General Public License.

I'm the copyright holder.

This is not true for:
wiktory.css, fade-butt.png, header-shadow.png - reused from the GPL'd WordPress, they do not carry a copyright notice but i contacted the author Matt Mullenweg(m@mullenweg.com) who assured that i may reuse these files under the terms of the GPL. These files will vanish in the long term.

gnu-fdl.png - the copyright status is unknown, i will remove it if this is required.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
  python       >= 2.2         (PSFL)
postgresql                  (BSD)
psycopg      (http://www.initd.org/projects/psycopg1)

psycopg is GPL'd but it depends on mxDateTime(http://www.egenix.com/files/python/mxDateTime.html). There are rumours, that this may not be GPL-compatible. This is a common problem with python database adaptors.

Other Comments:
---------------
I see no short-term solution for the mxDateTime problem, but still i ask you for approval. I really need project management facilities (especially mailing lists).

freelist.org, sf.net and such are no options for me.
