Hello again.

No problem. I should read things more carefully.
I saw the license in the "elementtree" source code. It is free and was published under a GPL compatible license.

I have approved your project.  You will receive an automated e-mail containing detailed information about the approval.

Regards.

Hello.

The license/copyright notices in your documentation are fine.
http://pie.plexq.com/ - did you broken something?

But I've got a new question, hopefully the last one.
You included two other programs under tarballs/. "pythondoc" looks okay, but "elementtree" not.

There is no license in this tarball, and the source code lacks information about copyright holder and license, too.

But you do not mentioned it as a dependence. So what it is? And the main question: Is it free?

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Ok - I see - I need to copyright and license all the docs file to the FDL - got it.

See http://www.fubars.org/~aturner/pie-1.1.2.tgz

Thanks for all your help

Hello.

When you have a look at the source code of the website you should see the license and copyright information on the top.
Please include these notices like you did for your .py-files.

And please read http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html

Any further problems?

Yes - I am currently hosted on Sourceforge, but I don't like sourceforge's policies and their lax attitude to licensing.  I am hoping to move my project completely to Savannah once I have finished with the approval process and remove it from sourceforge.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about including the license in the source of the documentation.  Could you give me an example of what you mean so that I can follow?  I'm not sure what you mean by 'title page' either.  I have a link from the home page to the licensing both on the nav and in the main text.

Thanks,

Alex

Hello.

Thanks for pointing me to the correct pythondoc.
I had a look at the README file, which includes the license. It looks like it is compatible to the GPL. So it shouldn't be a problem for us.

At second, I do not see the license and copyright information in the source of your documentation. You had to include the copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements after the title page of each work.

And last, I saw that you included a Sourceforge.net logo in your documentation. Did you host your project also on SF.net?

You cannot host your project on Savannah and Sourceforge at the same time. Can you please clarify this point?

I think that is the wrong pythondoc ;)

Try this one: http://effbot.org/zone/pythondoc.htm - I couldn't find any info about licensing on the site though.

I have included a new COPYING file, and updated the docs to have infomation about license.  To see how this looks reference http://pie.plexq.com/ where the PIE docs are live.

New tarball is http://plexq.com/~aturner/pie-1.1.1.tgz

Thanks,

Alex

Hello again.

I should said something about the dependence, I think.

DCOracle2: Zope Public License (ZPL), GPL compatible

pythondoc <http://starship.python.net/crew/danilo/pythondoc/>: own license, which looks totally GPL incompatible

Hello.

About the dependence:
You are right. You had to check if everything is free available under a GPL compatible license. If not, kick it away, as you described it.

About your source:
As I could see, the license is missing in your tarball.
Please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL,
available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

And your documentation lack information about copyright and license.

In order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the FDL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements after the title page of each work.

In addition, if you haven't already, please add a copy of the FDL
(available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html in various formats) as a section of your works , and as plain text in a file named 'COPYING' (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt).

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html#SEC4

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers additional points, including a smaller notice that you can use in auxiliary files.

Look forward to your updated tarball.

Link to source tgz:
http://www.plexq.com/~aturner/pie-1.1.tgz

I have also noticed whilst reviewing the source code that I am also depending on DCOracle2 (although it's optional) which I believe is part of Zope that is now under a GPL compat license, and I am including tarballs of a pythondoc tool, and I don't know if that matters, but I couldn't determine what license it's released under.  The project doesn't exactly depend on that tool, but I use it to generate docs.  If it's not GPL then I'll kick it and write my own.

I really apprecaite Savannah's diligence in making sure all is in order.  It's worth it to keep software free!!

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

While name "PyGres" as a dependence, did you mean "PyGresSQL"? Or can you point us to the project website of "PyGres"?

And please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code.
The description you gave when registering will not be read by the general public.
If you are still concerned with privacy, however, you can forward the code to me by email.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and
permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Description:
------------
PIE is the Python Internet Engine.  It is designed to be used either as an apache module or a stand-alone system to generate content.  It bares a passing resemblance to Cold Fusion in syntax, but has the ability to embed code php style.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
  PyGres,
Python 2.2 or greater,
mod_python,

Other Comments:
---------------
This is a resubmission of the project that I had called XIE previously.  I have come to the conclusion that I did not need the PyXML parser as python has one built in that will do and meets the licensing requirements.  Also I figured that it will always be in Python, so PIE is more fitting, plus it's funnier.
