Hello.

All right, I will close the submission for now.

But please notice, that there is no need for a GNU project to be hosted on Savannah.
You can still ask -email is unavailable- to become an official GNU project, please read http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html, too.

And if you want to re-register in the future, feel free to do so.

Regards,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Hi Sebastian,

There was a little confusion. I copied these source files from a previous GPL project.

I appreciate your time given to assessing my project's compliance for hosting on GNU Savannah, I have decided to continue developing and to host it myself.

All the best

Ashley

Hello.

If these source files do not belong to you, you cannot attribute them to someone else than the author.

Don't you know where you copied these files from?
If you do not know the author, you cannot use these source files in your project....

So what do you decide to do?

Hi,

I am having difficulty contacting the possible creators of the GPL source files which are missing Copyright notices.
Is there a generic name that I can attribute them to? I am hesitant to make a guess about the authorship of someone else's source.

Hello.

Okay I should make things clearer:
/src/win32pth/pthread.c: missing Copyright notices
/src/win32pth/pthread.h: missing License and Copyright notices
/src/blacklist.c: missing Copyright notices
/src/blacklist.h: missing License and Copyright notices
/src/cache.c: missing Copyright notices
/src/cache.h: missing License and Copyright notices
....

For the Copyright notices have a look at http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html
for the others see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

Futhermore doc/*html, doc/TUTORIAL, doc/gnut_docs/{HACKING,INSTALL,README} lack information about License and Copyright as well. We recommend that you use the GNU FDL (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt) for these files.

Hi Sebastian,

I have uploaded a modified tarball with GPL headers at the top of each source file as requested.

Download URL is the same:
http://gumgnut.8bit.co.uk/gumgnut-0.0.1.tar.gz

Regards

Ashley

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

At first, in order to release your project properly and unambiguously under the GPL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.

In addition, if you haven't already, please include a copy of the plain text version of the GPL,
available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt, into a file named "COPYING".

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.

The GPL FAQ explains why these procedures must be followed.
To learn why a copy of the GPL must be included with every copy of the code, for example,
see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#WhyMustIInclude.

Furthermore, in order to release your documentation files properly and unambiguously under the FDL, please place copyright notices and permission-to-copy statements after the title page of each work.

In addition, if you haven't already, please add a copy of the FDL
(available from http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html in various formats) as a section of your works , and as plain text in a file named 'COPYING' (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt).

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.html#SEC4

http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl-howto.html also covers additional points, including a smaller notice that you can use in auxiliary files.

And at last, the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Updates versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

If you are ready, please point us to the updated tarball.
Regards,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

Gumgnut is a communication program which is intended to allow efficient free communication. i.e. for anyone to discuss anything, with anyone else to a group size up to everyone. (it has a positive feedback loop built in to allow the percolation of the most agreed upon ideas to a visible level)

Gumgnut is written in C and is a small command set extension of the Gnutella servent Gnut(GPL). The extension adds the ability to Create, Reply and Mirror a discussion comment. Plus various modes of searching for and displaying any comments in a particular discussion ( also indicating their moderation weighting ).

Testing over a local LAN has had success with creating, moderating and display of the comments in discussions.

The Gumgnut modifications to the Gnut source can be found in src/cli.c .
Added commands are:
create, listresults, showcontents, mirror, listhits, reply, displaytree, branches, threshold, forward, backward, foo and lanconnect
