Is it possible to reopen and reassign the project?

Hi,

We did not get a response from you, so we deleted your project from the pending queue and from our system.

If you would still like to have your project hosted at Savannah, please register it again but with source code.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgment of your earlier registration will direct
you to the proper location where you can re-register your project.

Regards.

Hello.

Okay again:
Thanks for fixing the FSF address. :-)

But the files BIOS* and biossums.c still lack information about copyright and/or license.

And about your README file "It is an open source x86 BIOS":

Note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to Free Software, it's frequently
misunderstood.
For more information, please see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html.

I see that you still working on the project so I do not like to remove your project, but please reply to this tracker item as soon as possible and fix your source code.

Regards,

Hello.
We would like to review your source code now.

At first, the address of the FSF has changed, and is now:

51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA  02110-1301  USA

Please update your license notices.

Updates versions of the GPL, LGPL and GFDL can also be found at:
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl.txt
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/fdl.txt

Please update the copy of the license (usually, the 'COPYING' file) in your package as well.

You can find some background and a possible migration script at https://savannah.gnu.org/forum/forum.php?forum_id=3766

At second, biossums.c lacks information about copyright and license notices. Please include there these notices, too.

And last, for the binary-files BIOS-bochs* please add license and copyright notices in a README file in their directory. There you can write the full license notices, permission-to-copy statements and copyright notices.

Please make the changes mentioned above and reply to this tracker item. We will review your source code then again.

Regards.

Since you can't send me the source code right now, I approve the project as "without source code". This means I'll check it back in a little while and bug you again if something wrong :)

I didnt added any new files, the current ones have the license note.

Hi,

My aim is to look at how you modified the files, ie if you added misssing license notices and added valid copyright ones.

For this, could you send me (or attach to this tracker), the source code you intend to upload at Savannah?

Just checkout the bochs tree from bochs.sf.net and have a look at the bochs/bios/ directory. My code bases on that, (but dont have it by here right now). Additions are better PCI handling, I2C support for the SPD chips found on the memory modules (for proper memory size detection).

Actually I hoep this wont be a real fork, but a move of the bios from the Bochs source to and independent project.

It has been used for a while by numerous projects, such as Plex86, Bochs, QEMU and ADLO (for using with LinuxBIOS).

For the same reasons moved the VGABIOS to an indepent project, on savannah.

I can make you sure I'm knowing the license issues, the whole thing is under the LGPL now and I won't (and can't) change that. Also just have a look at the bochs, vgabios, qemu, ffmpeg and mplayer lists and search for my name.

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah (at last, sorry again for the delay).

Can you point me to the source code you intend to upload at Savannah (it can be the Bochs code you want to fork from, or preferrably the code you are working on at the moment)?

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every file of source code.  This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

Sorry, we have a bit (a lot) of backlog at the moment. I'll try to review your project asap. Thanks for your patience.

The LGPL'd PC BIOS project is the fork of the BIOS in Bochs (was Plex86) to make it independently developed of the Bochs project coz it is used by others aswell, for example by QEMU and possibly other emulators.

On my long term TODO list is to make this pcbios usable on real hardware (some people already did that with the help of LinuxBIOS, just have a look at the ADLO project which manages the change from protected mode to real while doing some initialization for the Bochs BIOS).

For some source code have a look at http://bochs.sf.net/
