Yes, the mails are now there.  The update frequency, and since it is relatively low the exact time of day when it's done, is something that's hard to guess when you don't know.

I sent the last of my previous comments here specifically to try to keep everything about the issue documented in one place, as much as possible.  (Members of the bug-grep mailing list have been informed that this is taking place and may be following this through the web interface.)  It's not in any way because I would be ignoring anything you (Sylvain) already explained!  I put you (Sylvain and Stepan) in Cc of my message to <sysadmin@gnu.org> to avoid having you miss part of any related developments.

As I said I currently have as much power as you on the mail system configuration :/

The mail archive is updated twice a day IIRC.

Apparently the mails are in the web archive now aren't they?

Ok, thanks for the email address; I will contact them and point them to this discussion.  I feel somewhat powerless because I have to look at this from the outside, while I usually have no difficulty solving this kind of problem without solliciting others' help when I'm in a position to do so (access to logs, etc.).

When I said that it eventually worked, I meant that I received each of the two expected messages related to grep's webcvs update (<E1DgUfj-0004v4-00@savannah.gnu.org> and <E1DgUfi-0004v0-00@savannah.gnu.org>, dated about 20050609T213442Z) from my subscription to the grep-commit mailing list.

However, it's been hours and those two messages still haven't showed up on <http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grep-commit/2005-06/index.html> so something is problematic there.

Two other messages related to a later change to grep's cvsroot (<E1DgVF4-0000cK-00@savannah.gnu.org> and <E1DgVF4-0000cN-00@savannah.gnu.org>, dated 20050609T221114Z) have shown up there as well as in my mailbox in a matter of minutes.

Hi,

I didn't do anything as far as as I'm concerned.

The mail system is managed by sysadmin@gnu.org. Can you contact them?

gnu.org has an internal NTP server already, on which Savannah is synced, so it should be easy to configure that - please tell them :)

Thanks.  I did a test and it eventually worked, but it seems that the mails emanating from webcvs were delayed and needed approval after (above)

> Received:
>   from mailman
>   by lists.gnu.org
>   with tmda-scanned (Exim 4.43)

and before (below)

> Received:
>   from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=lists.gnu.org)
>   by lists.gnu.org
>   with esmtp (Exim 4.43)

as can be seen by the presence of a

> X-Mailman-Approved-At: ...

header field, whereas those emanating from cvsroot did not.  (They went through immediately.)

Did you (or someone else) indeed have to manually intervene?  Did you change something to prevent having to do it repeatedly in the future?

There is another detail that I tried to report a while back (3 months ago) but about which I didn't receive feedback past a first forwarding:  the clock of host lists.gnu.org, that is used to generate time stamps in header fields of email messages going through it at various stages of processing, seems to be improperly synchronized by a few minutes.  I would facilite diagnostics if it were synchronized (e.g., using NTP) within a few milliseconds of official time.

This is complicated by the fact that the identity and contact address of the sysadmins for each of these hosts (as opposed to the generic address of the GNU webmasters, which is not appropriate for this) is not clearly published.  It would be nice if it were.

Hi.  Let me clarify:
the requested e-mail addresses are aliases defined in the alias file on fencepost.  (I added all four mentioned aliases there; they all point to grep-commit.)

The aliases give me the possibility to redirect (some of) the messages elsewhere if there is a need, without bothering you again.

Hope this explains it.

Hi.

It was first attempted to address this issue with support #103962 <http://savannah.gnu.org/support/?func=detailitem&item_id=103962>.

I don't know the exact details of what needs to be done here on savannah.gnu.org and over at lists.gnu.org, and who are the responsible persons in each case, so please take the time to enlighten me (us) along the way, so that I'll be more familiar with the process should there be a next time.

This is for project "grep".  The same setup that currently allows both commit email messages (To: grep-cvs-logs@gnu.org) and diff email messages (To: grep-cvs-diffs@gnu.org) from the CVS source code repository to be funneled to the <grep-commit@gnu.org> mailing list needs to be replicated for the web site CVS repository as well.

I.e., commit email messages (To: grep-webcvs-logs@gnu.org) and diff email messages (To: grep-webcvs-diffs@gnu.org) from the web site CVS repository should also be funneled to the same <grep-commit@gnu.org> mailing list.

Everything necessary to achieve this that doesn't yet exist, either on savannah.gnu.org or on lists.gnu.org needs to be created (e.g., email aliases) and is part of this request.  It is possible that some of the infrastructure is already in place, but then again maybe not.

Thanks.
