That's reasonable. Please try this patch: f3913a352c.  With it you can use part specifiers after special message designators: . (dot), ^, and $.  As a syntactic sugar, you can also compress two dots to one: "write .1" means the same as "write ..1".

Very often I want to save the 1st part of the current message, say number 76 in my mbox.

I must say

W 76.1

But this means that I have to KNOW the message's number, and this is different for each message. It would be nice if I could address the current message by it's standard name "." in this command. I.e., I would say

W ..1

Currently, when I type that, I am told that it is a syntax error.

What do you think?  Is it possible? feasible?
