Hello

I saw in latest 1.29 the error numbers are output, rather than strerror(). Could that be updated? Would this be supported?

system.c:194

else if (WEXITSTATUS (wait_status) != 0)
FATAL_ERROR ((0, 0, _("Child returned status %d"),
WEXITSTATUS (wait_status)));

$ tar cvfz .thunderbird 2017-09-2
tar: 2017-09-2: Cannot stat: No such file or directory
tar (child): .thunderbird: Cannot open: Is a directory
tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

There are others for signals
if (!(!eof && sig == SIGPIPE))
FATAL_ERROR ((0, 0, _("Child died with signal %d"), sig));

Could strsignal() be used too so those are clearer?

Thank you
