The gnash browser plugin consist of two parts.  the gnash (actually gtk-gnash) binary  and the browser plugin code that is calling the binary.

There are several configure options to specify the plugin directory.  The most relevant for you migth be these:

  --with-plugins-install=system|user|prefix
  --with-npapi-plugindir=DIR

Not quite sure what more information you expect to find.  Can you provide some suggestions on what documentation would have helped you in your situation?

there is no plugin dir option to configure at least none that
shows up from ./configure -help |less
I went through the documentation searching for plugins
all I could find was an configure option but it was not there
when I ran configure -help

all I want gnash for is a browser plugin
this is a total show stopper for me

all I could find searching the web was a debian wikie with information that didn't apply to my distro
and a veary long list of people who could not get gnash to work as a plugin

it also seems like on one on the web has any idea of how to use gnash as a plugin

it's a shame to see all your hard work go to waste for want of a little information

there are a lot of people who would like to use gnash as a plugin but can't find the info on how to do it
