When the file being edited contains lines that are exactly as long as the width of the terminal minus one, ├índ these lines start with a character that takes up two positions, such lines get displayed wrongly in some circumstances, and sometimes even neighbouring lines are misdisplayed. For an extensive description of some of the effects, see comment 2 in bug #31743.


Attached patch stops the misdisplaying from happening. Admittedly it is an absurd patch: it just pokes an extra space into the screen for every redisplay of a line. However, do note that it is a non-breaking space (0xA0), a normal space doesn't have any effect. This patch "solves" the mentioned bug #31743.
