grep-2.6.3 released [stable]

Item posted by Jim Meyering <meyering> on Fri 02 Apr 2010 10:21:07 AM UTC.

This is to announce grep-2.6.3.

grep is a tool to search for strings inside a file.

Some are probably wondering...

What?!?  That makes four, (yes, 4!) releases in 11 days.
Can't you guys get it right?

Time will tell.

This release fixes another fgrep-infloop bug as well as
a build-vs-PCRE problem and some test portability bugs.
Details in the logs; summary in the NEWS below.

Thanks to Paolo Bonzini for fixing the fgrep bug and for helping
to make the tests more portable.  Thanks to everyone else who has
been contributing, helping to manage the mailing list and reporting bugs.

For a summary of changes and contributors, see:
  http://git.sv.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=grep.git;a=shortlog;h=v2.6.3
or run this command from a git-cloned grep directory:
  git shortlog v2.6.2..v2.6.3

To summarize the gnulib-related changes, run these commands from
a git-cloned grep directory:
  git checkout v2.6.3
  git submodule summary v2.6.2

Here are the compressed sources:
  http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grep/grep-2.6.3.tar.gz   (1.3MB)
  http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grep/grep-2.6.3.tar.xz   (812KB)

Here are the GPG detached signatures[*]:
  http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grep/grep-2.6.3.tar.gz.sig
  http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grep/grep-2.6.3.tar.xz.sig

To reduce load on the main server, use a mirror listed at:
  http://www.gnu.org/order/ftp.html

[*] You can use either of the above signature files to verify that
the corresponding file (without the .sig suffix) is intact.  First,
be sure to download both the .sig file and the corresponding tarball.
Then, run a command like this:

  gpg --verify grep-2.6.3.tar.gz.sig

If that command fails because you don't have the required public key,
then run this command to import it:

  gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv-keys B9AB9A16

and rerun the `gpg --verify' command.

This release was bootstrapped with the following tools:
  Autoconf 2.65.54-80019
  Automake 1.11a
  Gnulib v0.0-3662-g6207255
