When unpacking a very big archive (>300000 files) to overlayfs, I received a number of errors "Directory renamed before its status could be extracted". Fast web search found many similar reports about docker containers on macOS, however I use Debian GNU/Linux. Seems that problem is that st_dev and st_ino can be inconsistent in overlayfs. Some files could get large inode numbers and the "xino" feature did not work for them. As this issue is often mentioned together with macOS, I guess that "xino" is always disabled there.  If I mount an overlay with "xino=off" option in Debian, the error is reproduced much faster.

My version of tar is 1.34.
