On a VT (a Linux console) it only happens when running nano with --constantshow on a large file, but on a Gnome terminal I can get it even when scrolling in the README file.

A more reliable way to reproduce this is to run 'src/nano NEWS', and type: ^W told you <Enter>. Then press and hold Alt+W.
