Okay.  I made one little change: statusbar() already calls  wnoutrefresh(bottomwin), so it is enough to call doupdate() to update the screen.  Patch applied to SVN, r4974.  Thanks.

Sounds good to me.  I wasn't sure how much to emulate Pico in this case, since nano hasn't done delayed statusbar messages in that way before.

The new attached patch against SVN trunk r4973 adds this, except that it doesn't blank bottombars (Pico doesn't do it, and it won't have any effect in expert mode either way) and it does shut off the cursor while displaying the delayed message (Pico leaves the cursor on at the end of the statusbar, but that looks ugly to me).

Hmm...  When -t is used I think it should behave different than when not.  What Pico does is nice.  Nano could do the same: display "No file name", maybe beep, maybe blank the bottom bars too to draw extra attention to the status bar, sleep for two seconds, and then ask for a file name or rezignation.  What do you think?

I've looked into this.

Following these steps using Pico will make it display "[No file name]" on the statusbar for a few seconds, and then prompt for a name to save the file under, in spite of the "-t" option.

The attached patch makes nano SVN r4959 do mostly the same, and updates associated comments (it does prompt for a filename, but does not add the "[No file name]" statusbar message, since that could interact strangely with, say, nano's --quickblank option).

1. Run "nano -t".
2. Type something.
3. Try to exit.

The only way to exit nano without modifying the file system is to type /dev/null as the file name.
