A similar problem has been reported to Debian: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=364386

The cause was that the user started TeXmacs with his old home directory which he had carried on from FreeBSD. The cache in his home directory refered to a lot of files in /usr/local/texmacs, which is non-existant in Debian.

I resolved the bug by checking if the file really exists before trying to load fonts (patch attached). I am not sure about how suitable the patch is for you concerning platform independence. But maybe the hint already does the trick.

Can you please retry with a more recent RPM?
If you still get a crash, please give me the output of

texmacs --debug-all
