I think you've reported this against the wrong repository.
I am not sure what that is, but this repo is for the
source highlight program:

prentzel. ./build/src/source-highlight --version

Below, I expect to see the current date printed:

% highlight --force --out-format="truecolor" --style clarity <(date)
% echo $?      

Instead, I get null output, but a success exit.

Here's what cat does:

% cat <(date)
Thu 15 Oct 2020 13:19:57 +07

Version info:

% highlight --version | head -n3

 highlight version 3.57
 Copyright (C) 2002-2020 Andre Simon <a dot simon at mailbox.org>
