Sounds fascinating - any chance you could give examples of the different targets you use?  I'd love to understand your use case better.

op here, i have about 15 different targets that i currently use. i've been managing everything from applications to dotfiles with stow these days. it's an awesome program! as of right now i am using .target files and "hiding" them with a .stow-local-ignore. as an example:

stow project -t (cat project/.target)

Interesting idea.  How many different targets do you have?

hello, i love gnu stow. but i'd like it even more if the repository could tell you where to install to via a file in the repository. for example:

~/stow/test
   .target
   somefile_to_link

$ cd ~/stow
$ stow test

since the .target file exists it would read the value from the file and use it as the -t (target) argument. if the command used the -t flag, it should override the .target file.

thank you for your consideration.
