This is related to bug #39103. I changed the gsl_block_alloc call back to malloc from calloc for the block data. Its better to memset the data block to 0 in the vector/matrix calloc calls.
the vector_calloc memset works ok, but for some reason the matrix_calloc memset doesn't initialize the padding bytes correctly, and valgrind finds uninitialized errors in the long_double_fwrite routine.
