I tried installing stow-2.2.0 as follows:

  tar zxf stow-2.2.0.tar.gz
  cd stow-2.2.0
  autoconf
  automake
  ./configure --prefix=...
  make
  make install

autoconf gave me this warning:

aclocal.m4:16: warning: this file was generated for autoconf 2.68.

I have autoconf version 2.67.

During the make phase I noticed an error message:

Not in a git repository; can't update ChangeLog.

During the make install phase I got this error:

/usr/bin/install: cannot stat `./ChangeLog': No such file or directory

I fixed the problem with:

cp doc/ChangeLog.OLD ChangeLog

Then make install succeeded.
