Let's make the sign up box really easy -- just a username and an email address.

We'll mail them a link, they click that, and they enter a password, and they're in. Once they've done that, let them get started -- or add more information to their profile if they want.

A tooltip in UI is far enough, I only wanted to focus your attention on the inconsistency of this form. If you input a proper, full location, then you are automatically added to a proper location group (listeners from the same country). Any other input, eg. city only causes this feature to be disabled (user is not being added to any group).
IMHO a user should be informed, that if he input a proper formated, "city, country" info, he will join his country group. That's all.

Location is free-form text. You can put "Planet Earth" if you like. There is no requirement to be specific.

If you want to give libre.fm an accurate, machine-readable version of your location, then fill in your town and country and click "find" to find your location on geonames. This will allow libre.fm to show you other people in your area.

I don't think we need to make any changes to libre.fm's code for this bug, but improvements to the UI are probably needed. I did the profile edit feature, but am not a UI expert.

A "Location" form field should suggest desired format of input, or be autofilled with the most probable content

I've inputed "Warsaw", system should suggest me the exact location ("Warsaw, Poland" and the others).
If it is not possible, then I suggest to divide this field into "City" and "Country" fields, or at least to supply user with propper hint "fill this field in this way: City, Country".
