Another way to reproduce:
on a local machine, start xterm, make the window larger, start ww, open a big file, start doing page-down and you have it (look for '*' symbol to show up on the status line)

console version read_kbd craps out in the middle of ESC-seq. When timeout of store-rec-file expires in the middle of reading ESC-seq we return immediately instead of waiting for the end of the sequence and only then return.

to reproduce: on a slow terminal (through 2-3 chained ssh connections), press arrow key and hold, it will sometime only show part of the ESC sequence of the key
