I have approved this project.  You will receive an auto-generated
email containing detailed information about the approval.  Always have
in mind the Savannah requirements (Specially the Zero free
software/firmware section):
https://savannah.gnu.org/register/requirements.php.

And please don't hesitate to consult -email is unavailable-
when you are not sure whether a package to be included in this kernel
would met the hosting requirements :).

Hi, Giovanni,

I think that is enough. I don't know how the name and the category can be changed, and I cannot approve projects yet, so I'll leave that to Mario.

Karl, thanks for your correction. I thought version numbers were just for tarballs, not for directories... You are of course right. I will correct my package (eLyXer) for next version.

Ok, I changed my working version to remove GNU from the name, accepting it as nongnu for now.

Is it enough for approval?

Hi Giovanni (and Alex),

I am gnueval-input, for all intents and purposes, so I may as well chime in.  It seems to me that it wouldn't make sense to ask rms about another kernel as an official GNU package, at least before it is considerably more advanced.  I'm not sure what he would think about it anyway.

So it should be evaluated as a nongnu package for now, and no "GNU" in the name.  If it becomes a GNU package in the future, it'll be no problem to switch the savannah project admin stuff.

(We don't actually assume a "complete program" for gnueval-input, in fact there is specific text about evaluating something at an "early stage of development".  But in this particular case, I don't think it makes sense to go down that road right away.)

Finally, Alex, it is highly recommended that the root dir of a tarball contain a version number.  We should complain when this is not the case :).

Thanks,
Karl

1) This is meant to be a GNU package, part of the GNU system. I would have used the form you linked, just that assumes a complete program, and this is very very alpha.
In fact, I'm applying for Savannah partially to get a public repository, not because the project is any read for public use and/or review.
Nonetheless, if getting approval from -email is unavailable- is required, I will comply as soon as I can.

2) The tarball is Automake-generated, so I assume it is normal to include the version in the root package directory.

3) I know that and I'm planning to fill them, just for now I don't have enough source to document :)

Hi Giovanni,

I am an aspiring administrator and I am trying to review your submission. There are a few issues with this package:

  • The names begining in "GNU" and the type "GNU software and

documentation" are reserved for GNU packages. I suggest a name change to just "H+". The instructions for suggesting a package to be included in GNU project are in http://www.gnu.org/help/evaluation.html.

  • The root directory is called hplus-0.01, however I assume you are not going to change it for every version. It would be more convenient if it was called just "hplus".
  • A few of the included files, particularly the documentation, are empty. It would be nice (but certainly not a requirement) if you could provide at least stubs of what they are going to contain.

Thanks!

Registration Administration

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific Group Administration page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

Registration Details

  • Name: GNU H+
  • System Name:  hplus
  • Type: Official GNU software
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later

Description:

It is a new microkernel for the GNU system, written in GNU C++, a tentative replacement for Mach, using concepts from Plan 9 (like everything is an object inside a filesystem hierarchy) and with massive userspacing of functionality (from device drivers to security control).
It is very alpha stage at the moment (not even a working memory management), but I'm opening a project to allow public contribution.

Other Software Required:

For building:
gcc (at least 4.4.3)
autotools

For using:
nothing (it is a kernel)

Tarball URL:
