I approved your project.
You'll receive a confirmation mail shortly.

Note: if you plan to use Qt, make sure Trolltech switched to GPLv3. AFAIK it's not the case yet.

Sorry for the delay :/ I'm reviewing your new source right now.

I didn't import my current code into Google Code specifically because I do not wish to use Google Code. I've attached my current code here.

I think I nailed down all the licensing requirements this time :)

Hi,

Do you have some recent source code? If yes, please include a (perhaps temporary) URL pointing to the source code. Alternatively, you can forward the code to me by email or attach it to this tracker.

We wish to review your source code, even if it is not functional, to catch potential legal issues early.

For example, to release your program properly under the GNU GPL you must include a copyright notice and permission-to-copy statements at the beginning of every  copyrightable file, usually any file more than 10 lines long.  This is explained in http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html.  Our review would help catch potential omissions such as these.

In your test code, you used a good license notice, but you didn't include a copyright notice. Can you do that? You can find more information at http://www.gnu.org/prep/maintain/html_node/Copyright-Notices.html

Also, we do not allow to host your project on Savannah and
Google Code at the same time, if Savannah is just a project
mirror.  Your project development should happen primarily on
Savannah.

Is this a switch?

I am unable to use Gna! because of this issue: https://gna.org/support/index.php?1789

Since I don't have that problem on Savannah, I decided to register the project here and request that the one on Gna! be deleted.

Hi,

Both Gna! and Savannah have policy against using the account for mirroring purposes. So which one do you choose ? ;)

Registration Details

  • Name: Free Download Library
  • System Name:  freedl
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

FreeDL is a project to develop 3 things:

1. A library with advanced download acceleration capabilities (download splitting, resuming, using multiple sources, etc) over HTTP (and perhaps FTP and other protocols).

2. A simple command-line tool that uses the above library.

3. A cross-platform GUI download manager with features comparable to popular download managers (such as IDM and DAP)

The reason for this project is because proprietary download accelerators seem to be far ahead of free software equivalents, and the library component (the primary focus of the project) is meant to allow any (free) application to use download acceleration (for instance, for downloading updates and install files quickly and with resume support). The command-line tool is needed because it is much more usable in shell scripts and automation, and would not depend on X (and a GUI toolkit).

Some old testing code can be found at http://freedl.googlecode.com/svn.
By testing code, I mean this does not actually include any library
code, just testing out algorithms to use with HTTP.

Other Software Required:

The library does not have any external dependencies.

The GUI component will use GTK or Qt4 GPL, which to use has not been decided.
