Closing. If there are still test failures on Ubuntu GNU/Linux, please report them with logs attached.

The latest beta release of libtool 2.5.1 passes test 161 on Ubuntu GNU/Linux. Could you retest for this failure?

If you attach the testsuite.log for test 161, it may show why the test was failing for you. You can find the log in tests/testsuite.dir/161/ by running the following:
  make check TESTSUITEFLAGS="--debug 161"

The testsuite is designed to run for a variety of systems and account for failures. I can update it to skip or expect failure depending on the error, or I can update libtool if needed. However, if you would like to avoid the Darwin checks, you can specify which tests you would like to run like below:
  make check TESTSUITEFLAGS="1-157 165-170"

make check
# all tests succeed but:

## Test results. ##

ERROR: 150 tests were run,
6 failed (5 expected failures).
19 tests were skipped.
-----------------------------------------

Why are darwin/MacOS tests being run on Linux at all?

detection of operating system seems ok:
testsuite.log looks good:
