Free OCR programs found

Item posted by toby cabot <toby> on Wed 25 Jun 2003 02:32:38 PM UTC.

We used to have a tasklist entry that said "Optical character recognition programs; especially if suitable for scanning documents with multiple fonts and capturing font info as well as character codes. Work is being done on this, but more help is needed."  The Free Software Directory has at least two such programs now, ClaraOCR http://www.gnu.org/directory/claraocr.html and Ocrad http://www.gnu.org/directory/ocrad.html so if you're curious about OCR please offer to help one of these projects.

I found a number of other free OCR programs and information:

You may want to add these links to your news entry, so that people reading it will have a more complete sense of what's out there.
