Will be fixed (using Brand's idea) after bug #54659 is pushed to master, as it becomes more pressing then.

To reproduce, add the follwowing line at the end of your ~/.nanorc:


bind M-% nextword main


Then run 'src/nano +9 README' on a VT, and type <Shift+Alt+%> a few times.  See that instead of just jumping from word to word (as it does when run on a terminal emulator), the words get highlighted/selected.

This is understandable, seeing how the "cheating code" works that gets the state of the keyboard modifier keys, but it is unexpected.
