As there's a fairly usable workaround, I'll mark this as WONTFIX.

Anyhow, thanks for using nano.  :)

Neat! That's exactly the behavior I wanted. There's only one minor downside. If I resize the window, I need to close and reopen nano but I can live with that. Thanks.

It'd be nice to have it in nano as a setting but if you think it isn't worth it to spend time on that i can understand.

Anyways, thanks again it's really appreciate!

You can easily achieve the desired behavior yourself.  Make a file, say nano.sh, that contains the following little script:

#!/bin/sh

WANTED=80
REAL=$(stty size | cut -d" " -f2)

stty cols $WANTED
nano $@
stty cols $REAL

Then alias "nano" to that little script (or whatever other alias you normally use to start nano -- I use "nn"), and nano should be softwrapping at the same width on all your terminals.

I know that I can narrow the window but I would like to have the same wrapping limit on all the monitors I use.

I attached an image.

Hmm...  If you want your lines to be shorter, why not make your terminal narrower?  People use hardwrap (set fill 72) when writing emails to make it most likely that the recipient will see the text wrapped in the exact same manner as the writer.  If you use softwrap, you don't care how the recipient sees it wrapped, you just want the lines to not run off your own screen.  But you are saying that your terminal is so wide that the lines become uncomfortably long and you want to see them softwrapped earlier?

It would be nice to be able to add a limit to the xsoftwrapx function (e.g. set softwrap 80). In this way, this option would have the same behavior as "set fill", but without creating a new line because when I write a line in a configuration file I do not necessarily want to cut it in half.
