Hi,

I received the following on IRC:

VESA doesn’t need fixing in coreboot anymore for the Hurd, if you use the latest gnumach from git
And also the latest Hurd from git
damo22 implemented the drivers in the Hurd console just last week
You can check his commits on savahnna

So we can probably use Guix to use gnumach from git and produce and test some images and update the manual afterward (with a way to reproduce the images).

Guix has several issues when producing images for standalone VMs or real hardware, and the X200 has been known to work on HURD[1] with Libreboot (with some limitations such as no Xorg).

Yesterday I even managed to boot a Guix image on an X200 but without networking (the network card was broken on that X200) but I didn't manage to reproduce it on a T400 or T60 and the mailing list thread says that T400 don't work with some Debian images.

So it would be a good idea to fix it upstream as it would make things easier for everybody as GNU Boot would be able to test with HURD and HURD would have more information on which GNU Boot image(s) to boot HURD.

The two bugs to fix would be to first make it possible to create images that don't use hd0 but use sd0 or sd1 to make HURD find the hard disk / SSD, and then to make not only the first boot work but also subsequent boots.

Since the code paths for these two bugs are not in packages but into other Guix parts, once the bugs are identified and documented in GNU Boot, the idea would be to work with upstream directly and wait for the fix to land there to update our documentation.
