I encounter a similar problem, leading to potential data loss.

Steps to reproduce:
- enable "Multiple documents share window" buffer management in Preferences, close TeXmacs
- open TeXmacs
- make changes to the newly created document "No name [x]"
- press Ctrl-Shift-N to open a second window
- press Ctrl-W to close the second new document "No name [x+1]" in the second window
- At this stage the document "No name [x]" from the first window is shown in both windows. Pressing Ctrl-W in any one of them will close both, without prompting to save unsaved changes.

I have been dealing with the same issue. I agree that this is very un-intuitive. I often like to have multiple windows open to the same file to browse different parts of it.

I am using macOS 10.12, TeXmacs v2.1.1, with no .TeXmacs directory.

If I move the attached document on ~/Desktop and double-click it twice, two windows with the same document appear in TeXmacs

-> Did we not decide that opening again an already open document should just bring its window forward (rather than opening a second window), especially in macOS ?

Anyway, when I close the second window (using the red button at the top-left corner of the window) both windows get shut (expected behavior is that a single window should close).
