Sometimes, in seemingly random and not consistently reproducible cases, tabular environments in displayed math formulae that are too wide for the page start messing up the box alignment of the pieces of math. This results in it being hard to navigate and subsequently split the equation in a way to make it fit on a page.

Thanks for trying to construct a reproducible instance. (Un)Fortunately, your example works for me when putting the cursor at exactly the same position.
This being said, I guess that there is no really satisfactory general solution to this kind of problem: if certain formulas just don't fit on a line or in a table, then all kinds of nasty collisions and panic solutions may occur...
