I have tried the latest Ubuntu Budgie today and there the problem does not exist even in X11.

AFAIK this happens on X11 only and scaling works correctly on Wayland. Some distros switched to Wayland by default, but most still run on X11.

I understand from the form that setting

    export QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS=1

when launching TeXmacs temporarily solves the problem.

I agree that this is a very annoying issue and that we should find a better solution.

Are there some GNU Linux distributions for which TeXmacs does work with QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS different from 1?
If not, then we might always use the above setting.

I have checked that this goes back as far as 1.9.14 but is still in the current version and happens with Qt 5.15.2

Im using TeXmacs under Manjaro Linux with KDE on a 4k monitor and 125% upscaling and it produces blurry fonts.

Manually scaling back to 100% with QT_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTORS from command line produces sharp fonts, but every other factor 150%, 200% gets blurry fonts.
