The "git apply" command has a very handy flag "--recount" which allows you to apply a patch that has been edited by hand without having to tediously recalculate the line number counts.

This is a wonderful feature. Please add this to GNU's patch command.

FYI I suspected that this feature request may have been submitted before. However the GUI interface for this issue tracker is limited, and a search for "recount" did not turn up anything. Apologies in advance if this is a duplicate. If so, then "me too".
