Youjun confirmed the performance improvement with the patch "revert_2655.diff".

As far as rev 8087 is concerned, is seems that it take more time to compute the rendering because more things are done : the typesetter recompute the document until references are defined (when possible). This is made in order to compute forward references properly for the first time. In theory, this should not impede computation for "well defined" documents.

Here is Youjun's document which highlight r2655's regression.

To see the regression, go in formula (1) and switch it to inline equation. The switch outline->inline makes the editor busy after rev 2655.

Fyi, I made tests with the document given by Youjun Hu, in the following email:

I spent many hours for searching another performance regression; and it was rewarding.

The rev r2655 introduced this :

--- a/src/Typeset/Bridge/bridge_document.cpp
+++ b/src/Typeset/Bridge/bridge_document.cpp
@@ -52,7 +52,7 @@ bridge_document_rep::initialize () {

 void
 bridge_document_rep::initialize_acc () {
-  if (ttt->paper) acc= bridge ();
+  if (true || ttt->paper) acc= bridge ();
   else acc= bridge_docrange (ttt, st, ip, brs, 0, N(st), true);
 }

I have no sounding idea of what this should make, but it clearly add a big overcomputing effort when removing lines is concerned.

Here is a patch for reverting it.

I meant processing big document, not bug. :)

I made some tests on big a document on different versions of TeXmacs since 2012.

The performances are stable, divided in two periods. In fact, the rev 8087 has introduced a big overhead when processing bug documents. It needed (on my example) 16s to load the document before the commit, and 26s after.

Joris, I let you checking it.

Although improvements may be done, you are probably interested in splitting large documents. See e.g. http://www.texmacs.org/tmweb/manual/webman-links.en.html#auto-28 for help.

TeXmacs 1.0.7.18 in a Debian Linux i7 machine is rather slow editing a 16979379 bytes (246 pages) book.

I'd like if the next version would be faster editing big files.
