Thanks very much for your patch and your patience - I'm sorry I've been out of action so long!

I've just released gxmessage-3.4.0 with your patch applied, and I've added a mention in the AUTHORS file.

With gtk3 out for a while, I took a stab at porting gxmessage to the new API. The changes are fairly straightforward - pure replacement of function with their gtk3 equivalents.
