OK.   Because there were some relevant bugfixes a long time ago and I can't reproduce the problem, I'm going to close the bug as obsolete.  If you can reproduce the problem with the current release of findutils (either 4.2.x or 4.3.x) please open a new bug.  Thanks.

I'm moving continents in 4 days, hence my lack of time to report on this issue... I haven't forgotten about this, and I won't, since this company relies only on me to fix such issues, so I'll report back as soon as I find some free time...

Btw, this time find cannot see 7 files... It will be interesting to know more about what's going on...

Hi. Ok we run a CentOS server, hence why I run an old find version.
The problem popped up again, so this time I'll use the latest find version and I'll report back soon...

Thanks for the bug report.  But please take a look at the instructions presented at the top of the page that you used to submit the bug.  Item 1 in that list is  "Are you using a recent version of findutils? Is your problem fixed in the current version?".

You didn't say whether or not you also tested this with the current version of findutils; since you didn't mention  it, I'll assume not for the time being.

./Gruß.mp3
./Ñ.mp3
youngman@whatever:/tmp/accents$ /usr/bin/find --version
GNU find version 4.2.27
Features enabled: D_TYPE O_NOFOLLOW(enabled) LEAF_OPTIMISATION

So I think this problem is already fixed.  Please confirm whether or not this is the case.   Thanks.

4.1.20 is rather old; 4.3.9 was just released this month.

Meanwhile, -iname is based on strcasecmp, which is locale-dependent.  In the C locale, ä is not equivalent to a; in other locales, whether they are equivalent depends on the locale..  Without knowing your locale settings, I would have to guess that this is merely a setup problem and not a find bug.

I had 1100 files in a folder called /mp3files
One of this files had the character "ä" in the filename, as the singer was from somewhere in europe.
Find would give me the following:

find /mp3files/*.mp3 |wc -l           -> 1100 files
find /mp3files -iname *.mp3 |wc -l    -> 1099 files

So I found out that the -iname switch was not seeing the file with the "ä" character... After renaming "ä" to "a", "find -iname" would then give me 1100 files...

I was using GNU find version 4.1.20
