The internal structures within our galaxy imprints their colors on the extra-galactic sources, or even sources that are very deep inside our own galaxy and in doing many aspects of astrophysics, we need to account and correct for this added color factor.
This is called "extinction" and online calculators exist for it, like this one provided by NED:

It would be very useful if Gnuastro also had a program that could return a similar calculation when a given RA an Dec are given.
