Another useful piece of information is the air-mass (or altitude).

The distance to the moon (another critical parameter for observation) must also be calculated in the functions of this program.

One of the main choices observers have to make during an astronomical observation is this: which object from their full catalog is at the highest/best altitude at a given moment, and generally, seeing how the the object's altitude changes over the night.

These are both very basic operations that aren't too hard to implement but are very useful during an observing night.

The program can create a table for all the given coordinates (to use in a plotting software), or sort the objects based on which one will be best to observe at a given moment, and its exposure time, and the current position of the telescope.
