Octal - Summary
This project is part of the GNU Project.
OCTAL was a GNU project to create an integrated electronic music workstation. It has been decommissioned.
It will be implemented as a front-end for various sound synthesis and processing engines (the first of which is the realtime-capable Snd-RT language, and possibly Common Music.)
The goal is to support multiple techniques in the construction of a musical work: looping, layering, stretching, sampling, jamming, live recording, synthesis, processing, et cetera.

After a hiatus, Octal is back on track with updates coming soon. Parts of the project are moving toward GNU Objective-C.
See http://www.gnu.org/software/octal for more information; more detailed discussion is also available on the mailing list (same link as above.)

At the moment only the Octal webpage is kept in CVS here; at some point (probably soon) the Octal source repository itself will be placed in CVS so that you can browse it and check out nightly code.
