GNU Metadata Exchange Utilities - Summary
This software is part of the GNU Project.
Metaexchange is looking for a co-maintainer.
If you're interested, please take a look at this general information about GNU
packages and being a GNU maintainer, and then email
-email is unavailable- with a bit about your background and particular
interest in this package. Thanks.
The GNU Metadata Exchange Utilities comprise a package for retrieving metadata from servers, writing it to databases, querying the databases, and representing the results in human-readable form. It is intended that the package be extended so that it can be used for providing metadata as well as harvesting it.
This package is the successor of the IWF Metadata Harvester, which was a non-GNU project, formerly hosted at Savannah.
The GNU Metadata Exchange Utitilies will not depend on any packages, libraries, etc., that aren't commonly found on Free Operating systems unless they are also free. For example, the maintainer plans to implement support for free database software such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and nosql, which may not be included in a given operating system distribution.
The IWF Metadata Harvester depended on Microsoft products. The code affected by these dependencies will not be included in the GNU Metadata Exchange Utilities except as a way of making them run on a Microsoft system, and only if this functionality is available for free systems.
The most pressing task is therefore to port the package to GNU/Linux.
