Important update: tar-1.15.1
Item posted by Sergey Poznyakoff <gray> on Tue 21 Dec 2004 04:19:53 PM UTC.
The version 1.15.1 of GNU tar was released today. This version fixes an important flaw introduced with the previous version. The bug caused tar to refuse unpacking archives piped from standard input.
The new release is available from ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/tar or mirrors thereof. In addition to the usual set of files, a patch against the previous version is available (ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/tar/tar-1.15-1.15.1.patch.gz).
If you have already downloaded version 1.15, you are strongly encouraged to upgrade. To save the bandwidth you may choose to download the patch, instead
of getting the complete new tarball. To apply the patch, change to tar-1.15 directory and then use `patch -p1'. `-p1' avoids guesswork in choosing which subdirectory to find each file in.
