The name "angulardimdist" is quite anti-intuitive, since the angular diameter distance has nothing to do with "dimensions"; but it is related to a diameter (one way of defining it, which presumably explains the name, is the Euclidean static space distance that an extragalactic object would be at if it's angular diameter in radians were to be used to infer the object's physical (proper) size in the tangential direction).

Thanks a lot for this nice suggestion Boud! It has been merged in Commit 8ff805a3.
About the back-compatibility, to avoid too much development overhead; the tradition has been to keep all such breaks with previous versions in a "Changed features" section of the 'NEWS' file for each release.
The 'NEWS' file is included in every release announcement and when users search the name of the old option in the 'NEWS' file, they will find the new name for it, and from which version it was changed, and a description of why that change was made.
