It might be helpful for potential application writers to have unexec support switchable by configure as currently done for live object loading.

Greetings, and thanks for your report! We have consolidated around native object loading on all platforms. dlopen uses up too many file descriptors. bfd is too complex and unstable. Marking this closed for now.
