Hello,

Are you still interested in the submission of Partager ?

If within two weeks I still do not get a reply, I will close this submission request.

You will still be able to register the project again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Regards,
 -Assaf

Hi - sorry for the delayed reply.  (1) who told you that you can "just post the project"?  Just wondering.  (2) if you're not going to use any savannah facilities (no source repositories, no bug tracking, no anything), then what's the point of having a project here?

not saying we're opposed, just trying to understand.

best,
karl

Registration Details

  • Name: Partager
  • System Name:  partager
  • Type: non-GNU software and documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v3 or later

Description:

Partager is a data management, description and sharing system. It can fill the role of a file system or a database, but the data is managed using semantic tools, languages and tags, instead of specific structures like trees or lists.

The model has a lot in common with RDF or Gellish. The software will have a lot in common with Tracker and NEPOMUK. But while all these tools are focused on specific areas, Partager aims to work everywhere and be applied in every use of persistent information storage.

It will allow programs to integrate easily by sharing the user data. It will integrate with distributed network backends to support sharing between users. It will make the file system and the home folder appear as a graph. not as a tree, and browsing it will work by following queries and tags. Sorting the music folder by author, album and year at the same time will just work magically, and marking which movies you've seen or which programs slow your computer will be possible without specific software, using a general purpose information access interface.

In the author's opinion, Semantic Desktop is not even close to its full potential on personal computers, because all the (greedy) companies are after big money and mobile devices and addicting apps. But semantic desktop can make our computing experience entirely different, much more powerful than anything we've had so far.

Partager aims to make this a reality.

The author believes in redecentralization of the web, giving the power and control back to the users. He does trust Savannah and GNU, but decentralization means he is hosting his own website and his own git repositories, where he physically has control of them: At home.

Languages:

There isn't much code yet (a bit of C++ and Perl at the moment), but the plan is:

- C/C++ for low-level, e.g. data structures, parsers, serializers, converters
- Perl and Python for scripts, higher level API, GUI, object mapping etc.
- Newly created data languages, see website for details
- Maybe a functional language where it fits the model, I need to learn Haskell (after learning Scheme, will hopefully not be too difficult)

It's all here, but requires OpenNIC. At the time of writing, this is the IP until you set up OpenNIC on your computer (takes 2 minutes). There is a high chance the IP changes within the next 2 months, so until you read this it may not be invalid anymore. In that case, and in general, I recommend you start using OpenNIC :-)

Use OpenNIC? Great, the website is here:

http://www.partager.null

There is also I2P and Tor access. You'll find the links there. The website does absolutely no logging, no tracking, no analytics, nothing. No commercial, greedy or hidden influence, relation or funding. It's just science and progress for all people's happiness.

Other Comments:

Note to Savannah team:

I was told I can post just the project, without using any of your hosting. I just intend to publish the information, so I can more easilly find people to work with and ask questions about managing a nonprofit project with no commercial activity, without ending up hungry and homeless.

If you don't like idea, I understand. If you do, great - I probably won't use any bug tracking or git repos or anything, so it's minimum resources from your side - I'm trying to host my things at home.

The project page here is currently the only way for people not using OpenNIC/Tor/I2P to know about my work and maybe use the IP address to access it.
