Gnuastro's Table program can read a FITS ascii/binary tables and print them to the command-line.
An Emacs package can be written that will use Gnuastro's Table program to read an input FITS table (and possibly select some columns from it) and directly bring the contents of the desired columns into the current emacs buffer to use.
