Thanks to the help of Thérèse Godefroy, the top of the English page now has links to the French page and vice versa.

The French translation was also reviewed and revised by the GNU French Translation Team (which I see you are a member of, Lucas).

Thérèse also made many improvements to the HTML source of both pages.

Thanks alot Lucas, I have pushed it to the main Gnuastro history.

I also uploaded the French translation.

In the French translation, I also added your name in the maintainer section of the French page and re-named the file to `gnuastro.fr.html' based on checks with other pages.

But I need to consult GNU webpage admins on how to get the links to the different languages on top of the pages. When I find out, I will make the proper corrections. For the time being, people have to know the actual address of the French page.

I will also update the links and dates for new Gnuastro versions that are released.

In the meantime, if you find issues or want to make corrections, please feel free to make a new branch, apply the correction and let me know so I merge it into the main branch.

Thanks again for all the great work on the translation :-).

So sorry for this long delay Lucas, I had two consecutive conferences during the last two weeks and couldn't find the time to focus on this issue. I am back in Lyon now and can finally finish it :-).

I also had to consult the GNU Copyright associate for some advice and I just got a reply.

You have to fill in this online form:

https://my.fsf.org/civicrm/profile/create?gid=91&reset=1

Put a comment here when its done and I will merge the branch into master.

Thank you very much Lucas, the Git repo now looks perfect :-).

I am very sorry for my late reply! I am away for a conference and haven't been able to find the free mind to do a final check and merge this translation into the master branch since you posted it.

Indeed, you also raised an important issue which I was hoping to get to after the software aspects were complete. I need to check out. As far as I remember, the main problem with copyright was for code, but I think the guide for GNU Maintainers does discuss this and I need to review it more clearly to remember. Ultimately, I can contact the person in charge at GNU to confirm. But generally, in your case, signing and sending a copyright form will be easy, so I am generally not worried about it.

So I will hopefully merge your work onto master as soon as I find some free time and confirm the copyright issue.

Thank you very much again...

Now everything should be set up correctly.

Thank you so much for these detailed responses you've been sending, I would've been much more difficult without your help. If there's anything else that may have gone outside the guidelines or needs fixing, let me know and I'll get on fixing them as soon as possible.

Is there anything you need of me relating to copyright? Or is that something that applies to code contributions?

Great! Thanks a lot Lucas.

There are just a few problems with the git repo, could you correct them so I can cleanly merge it into master?

The main problem is this: you have merged your work into the master branch. As fully described in the Forking tutorial, you should not do this. You should keep each contribution in a separate branch, then let us know. The maintainer (currently me) will be in charge of merging your work into the master branch of the main repo.

Since the history of your "french-top-update" branch involves multiple merges with master, I have the following recommendation (it can be done in a different way by playing with Git, but the easiest and cleanest is just to re-create the fork):

1. Take the final "doc/gnuastro-top-fr.html" and keep it somewhere temporary (outside your Gnuastro clone).

2. Delete your current local repository and on the webpage.

3. Recreate your fork (on your system and later on Gitlab) as described in the Forking tutorial. In particular, keeping in mind that you should not merge the branch into master.

4. Let us know with a comment here.

5. I will merge it into master and push it to the main repo and following the instructions on the Forking tutorial you can pull the master branch and see it merged.

Could you also make sure that the commit message title (first line) is always less than 60 characters and also add a longer description under it (with one empty line in between). When you make a clean clone, run `git log' to see a few of the last messages as an example.

Thanks again for this great contribution, and sorry for this trouble. In a collaborative work, we need to follow a set of specific guidelines (as described in the tutorial and in general in Contributing to Gnuastro) so everyone can work as easily and smoothly as possible.

I really appreciate your help and look forward to merging it into master and making the webpage available as soon as possible :-).

The french translation of doc/gnuastro-top.html is finished on the branch titled "french-top-update" at https://gitlab.com/macquarrielucas/gnuastro-lucas.git

It would be great to have a French translation of the documents, thanks a lot :-).

Its good that you started with the main webpage (doc/gnuastro-top.html), its relatively short and very important. Once that is done and we can start the implementation procedures for the eventual upload.

Any time you are comfortable with the translation (and want to share it), put a link to your fork here so we can start to have a look and fix the technical issues until its ready to be uploaded. GNU does have some standards to allow the different languages to be shown in the main webpage (the top of the page is not managed by this HTML file). We'll get to them once the fork is ready for testing, for now you can focus on the text ;-).

I can work on the french translation of english documents, and I've already started on /docs/gnuastro-top.html . Currently any files I'm translating will have -fr appended to them, but if anyone prefers another format I can change that.
