You can't activate indexes.. but I forwarded your suggestion to the www.nongnu.org sysadmins.

I would like to provide an automatically generated index of some directories of my homepage. I tried to put 'Options Indexes' into .htaccess but this does not seem to have any effect.

What are the reasons to disable directory indexes sidewide? Everybody can visit the CVS so privacy can not be obtained by such a configuration.
