When I archive a folder containing a helm chart, and then extract the archive, and modify a line of the file's contents, tar --compare fails to return the expected "Contents differ". It only shows the mod time changed, and sometimes it reports differences in file size.

This leaves me with no way to check that the contents of files in an archive match the contents of files in a folder. What am I doing wrong?
