It is not the role of a GNU package maintainer to create and maintain
the packaging for a particular package system. There are too many
of them (RedHat Fedora, SuSE Linux, Debian, Ubuntu, FreeBSD,
OpenBSD, NetBSD, MirBSD, Fink, OpenPKG, Cygwin, etc.), with
too different goals.

The task of providing a NetBSD packaging for a GNU package is
therefore in the NetBSD community. The main issue is not
"a bit of extra work", but testing whether it fits well with the rest of
the NetBSD system.

I'm sorry, but I was not clear the first time. I have no trouble building gettext 0.14.5 on NetBSD, but that is a personal installation in my own home directory. I want my sysadmin to install gettext system-wide on sdf.lonestar.org, but he refuses to do so until an official NetBSD package has been made. This requires a bit of extra work, whose instructions are posted at

http://netbsd.org/Documentation/software/packages.html

gettext version 0.10.35 was the last for which a NetBSD package was created.

gettext-0.14.4 is known to build on NetBSD/PowerPC,
using the standard sequence of "./configure; make; make install".
I therefore assume that gettext-0.14.5 works the same way on all
recent NetBSD variants. If you encountered particular problems,
please submit a specific bug report for each of them.

I'd like to build cvs checkouts of GNU PSPP on NetBSD. PSPP relies on gettext 0.14.5 or later, but the most recent gettext port for NetBSD was 0.11.5nb5. If anyone has the time, please consider porting the latest version.
