This software is part of the GNU Project.
GNU Chess is a computer program which plays a full game of chess against a human or another computer program.
GNU Chess is a free chess-playing program developed as part of the GNU project of the Free Software Foundation. The first version was written back in 1984 by Stuart Cracraft.
The primary author of version 6 (current) is Fabien Letouzey, author of the Fruit chess engine. Fruit 2.1 is the base chess engine of GNU Chess v6.
