Wed 21 Sep 2022 01:53:06 PM UTC, comment #3: IIUC, their "classic" figures are implemented using Java. Their new uifigures are based on "web technologies". (I guess that is HTML5, CSS and Co.) When opening a plain "classic" figure, Matlab shows the controls and menu bar for plots by default. The new `uifigure` is completely blank by default. IIUC, the new `uifigure`s are meant for developing GUIs and Apps. The "classic" figures are meant for plotting...	Markus Mützel <mmuetzel>

Wed 21 Sep 2022 06:54:21 AM UTC, comment #1: IIUC, Matlab's `uilabel` is supposed to be used with their "new-ish" `uifigure` (that is different from their `figure`). Octave doesn't have `uifigure` graphics objects. (It creates a "classic" `figure` when using that function in Octave 8. I'm not sure whether this is a good idea though.) For their older `figure`s, the equivalent object would probably be created with an `uicontrol` with the "Style" property set accordingly. How do we want to deal with graphics objects that are specific to the new `uifigure` for them? Do we want to add them for our "classic" `figure` objects?	Markus Mützel <mmuetzel>
